Professionals are working to study options for opening temporary road connection to a locality in western Georgia's Tsageri Municipality where families were cut off by a landslide on Wednesday.

Geologists from the environmental protection ministry are among experts working to determine optimal avenues for opening alternate road corridors reaching the area where 10 families were blocked from accessing the outside world after the natural phenomenon.

The ministry said a section of "old landslide" had been activated next to a road connecting the villages of Lailashi and Ghu after long springtime rains and "worsening meteorological conditions", damaging the road and cutting off access to the locals.

Geologists of the state agency studied the area of the natural incident, located in the municipality in Georgia's north-west, and concluded the scale of the landslide and current weather conditions made it impossible to restore the connection.

The group of professionals is working to select an optimal approach route for opening a temporary connection to the families affected.
