Landslide hits Mestia municipality, 8 families cut off from outside world

Heavy rain has caused landslides 14 km from Mestia municipality in the villages of Zhabe and Muzhali of Mulakhi community. The Mayor of Mestia, Kapiton Zhorzholiani told Interpressnews that eight families are cut off from the outside world.

Landslides have been going on for a week as a result of heavy rains and melting snow. Heavy equipment is being used and all the necessary measures are being taken for the safety of the population. Geologists will arrive today”, Zhorzholiani said.

Flood damaged bridges in the village of Zhabe, leaving 15 families with limited road traffic.

The Emergency Management Service reports that several families have been moved to alternative housing for safety reasons.

No one was injured in the landslide.
