Starting today the Georgian government will ensure 20,000 daily coronavirus tests around the country to reveal new infections and curb the spread of the virus in a timely fashion.

Large-scale testing will continue until February 1, 2021.

More than 1,207,000 individuals have been tested for coronavirus in Georgia so far.

Tests conducted by private clinics and labs will be added to the 20,000 tests. Rapid tests will be actively used in the process,” said the government, adding that testing will also ensure proper hospitalisation of critical patients.

The government says that if Georgian citizens present a document at the border that they tested negative by PCR test for coronavirus in the past 72 hours, they will be sent to eight-day self isolation.

If they are unable to present such a document, they will instead be required to go into 12-day isolation instead of quarantine.

If they are unable to go into self-isolation, then the government will send them to a Covid-19 hotel.

The government says that a special working group has been created which will oversee the process of Covid vaccination, including transportation to Georgia, providing infrastructure and logistics for public vaccination.

Georgia has reported 4,033 new cases of coronavirus, 4,061 recoveries and 39 deaths in the past 24 hours.

The country has had 143,376 cases of coronavirus since February 26, 2020.

Since then 121,621 individuals have recovered, while 1,342 others have died.
