Georgia reported 5,068 new cases of coronavirus earlier today: a record-high figure since the country confirmed its first case of the virus on February 26, 2020.
Earlier this week the government announced large-scale testing of the public, about 20,000 individuals on a daily basis, to reveal new infections in a timely fashion and prevent the further spread of the virus.
Health officials said that 17,000 PCR and rapid tests were conducted yesterday.
The process will continue until February 1, 2021.
Georgia has had 152,704 cases of coronavirus since February.
126,304 of the 152,704 individuals have recovered, while 1,425 others have died.
2,336 individuals have recovered and 38 others have died of Covid-19 in the country in the past 24 hours.
24,349 individuals remain infected with Covid-19 in Georgia as of today.

6,671 patients are undergoing treatment in hospitals as of today. 1,070 of the 6,671 patients are in critical condition. 476 of the 1,070 critical patients are on artificial ventilation.
3,899 Covid-19 patients are in hotels, 1,241 individuals are in quarantine and 13,779 are at home.
51,262 individuals are in self-isolation.
More than 1,250,000 tests have been made in Georgia so far.
