Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia has tested positive for coronavirus.
The news follows his announcement yesterday via Facebook that he had gone into self-isolation after one of his security guards tested positive for coronavirus the day before.
The prime minister’s press office says Gakharia feels well and will stay home to fight the disease.
Earlier today Georgian Economy Minister Natia Turnava and the head of the Georgian Government Administration Natia Mezvrishvili went into self-isolation following contact with an infected employee.
Today Georgia has reported 1,852 new cases of coronavirus.
Seven people have died from COVID – 19 in the past 24 hours and 1,696 people have recovered.

Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia wrote on his Facebook today that he has gone into self-isolation after one of his aides tested positive for coronavirus. PM Gakharia, who continues to work remotely, thanked international observers ‘for their commitment to Georgia’s democracy’ amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Georgia has reported 1,852 new cases of coronavirus, of which 650 were registered in the capital city of Tbilisi, 389 in the Black Sea region of Adjara and 441 in the Imereti region.
A total of 1,844 senior medical students from various universities have already undergone a one-week training course in order to help Georgian epidemiologists in the fight against the coronavirus.

If one refuses to wear a face mask in open areas, individuals will be fined 20 GEL. Wearing a face mask was mandatory only in closed public areas up until now. Tskitishvili also said that restaurants around the country will work until 22:00.

A 96-year-old woman has recovered from coronavirus in the Black Sea resort town of Batumi, Georgia. Her son and daughter-in-law have also recovered from the infection. All three of them were treated at the International University Hospital Batumi, where the family was taken two weeks ago.
