PM Gakharia tests positive for coronavirus

Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia has tested positive for coronavirus.

The news follows his announcement yesterday via Facebook that he had gone into self-isolation after one of his security guards tested positive for coronavirus the day before.

The prime minister’s press office says Gakharia feels well and will stay home to fight the disease. 

Earlier today Georgian Economy Minister Natia Turnava and the head of the Georgian Government Administration Natia Mezvrishvili went into self-isolation following contact with an infected employee.

Today Georgia has reported 1,852 new cases of coronavirus.

Seven people have died from COVID – 19 in the past 24 hours and 1,696 people have recovered.
