Georgia’s Central Election Commission (CEC) has counted about 90 percent of all votes cast nationwide in the second round of Parliamentary Elections.

Latest preliminary results showed ruling party Georgian Dream Democratic Georgia is leading in 49 out of 50 majoritarian districts.

Georgian Dream candidates were running against candidates from the main opposition United National Movement (UNM) party in almost all districts in the election runoff.

Georgian Dream candidates won their respective districts in all majoritarian districts except in district #43 in Khashuri.

In Mtskheta independent candidate businessman Tsezar Chocheli was close to victory but his opponent from Georgian Dream Dimitry Khundadze won with a difference of only 60 votes.

In Khashuri district #43 ruling party candidate Valeri Gelashvili received 38.44589 percent of votes while his opponent from the Industrials party Simon Nozadze won the district with the support of 61.55411 percent of voters.

The election runoff on October 30 decided the outcome of one third of the total seats in the 150 seat unicameral Parliament of Georgia.

The second round of Georgia’s Parliamentary Elections was held in 50 of Georgia’s 73 election districts yesterday.

A second round of vote was needed in these districts as no majoritarian candidates gained enough votes to enter Parliament in the first election on October 8.

To enter Parliament candidates needed to win at least 50 percent of all votes in their respective voting district.
