One of the country's most vocal non-governmental organisations, Transparency International, says the 2016 runoff elections in Georgia "is going peacefully”.
As of now all polling stations have closed, however the statement of Transparency International covered the electoral process from 12-7:30pm.
Overall the NGO assessed today's electoral process positively but it also mentioned several violations and warned of the risk of further escalations after 8pm when polling stations closed.
Our observers have reported 50 insignificant and relatively serious violations. We have filed eight complaints,” said Transparency International.
During the whole day there has been a strained environment in Marneuli. Supporters of political parties are mobilised outside the polling station.
"There is a risk of further escalation after 8pm, when the counting commences. Therefore, it is important for law enforcement agencies to be prepared for any possible escalations beforehand,” said Transparency International.
