Georgia’s north-western highland Svaneti region will host the Freeride World Tour Pro qualifying, a series of sporting events for freeskiers and snowboard freeriders, for the first time, the Mountain Trails Agency said on Tuesday.
The Agency said Tetnuldi mountain ski resort with its “endless possibilities and beauty” provided a “worthy rival” to the more familiar ski areas for riders, with the location being a “new discovery” for freeride enthusiasts and professionals.
The event’s official opening will take place in the highland town of Mestia, with the competition scheduled to run between Friday and Thursday.
Michel Vion, the Secretary General of the International Ski Federation, on Saturday praised the ongoing Freestyle Ski, Snowboard and Freeski World Championships in Georgia’s winter resort of Bakuriani as the “best tournament” held with “very good outcome” and stressed Georgia had everything to become a winter sports destination.
