Georgian Government’s efforts in the country’s hosting of the ongoing Freestyle Ski, Snowboards and Freeski World Championships in Bakuriani have been recognised by Dean Gosper, a member of the Council of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation, who said the tournament represented “one of the outstanding World Championships”.
The Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development on Friday cited Gosper with the comment, with the FIS official also highlighting the level of infrastructure for the Championships by calling it “outstanding” and adding it allowed athletes to showcase their abilities “as much as possible”.
This is just the beginning for Georgia. Hope to also see Georgian athletes in prize-winning positions”, Gosper added.
Michel Von, the Secretary General of the FIS, on Thursday said Georgia deserved a “round of applause” for the level of its hosting of the event.
Officially opened on February 19, the Championships involve about 700 athletes from 42 countries competing in 30 categories.
Efforts for enabling Bakuriani to host the Championships saw installation of three new cable cars, a 29 kilometre-long artificial snowmaking system and two artificial water reservoirs, while athletes, teams and media are also hosted in the Championship Village set up in the town under a ₾270 million ($103 mln) expenditure by the Government.
