Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Johan Eliasch, the President of the International Ski Federation on Saturday discussed the ongoing Freestyle Ski, Snowboard and Freeski World Championships, hosted in Georgia’s winter resort town of Bakuriani.
The sides emphasised that Georgia was hosting a “large-scale” winter sports tournament for the first time and the participation of Georgian athletes in the Championships was also a “great opportunity” to gain experience with about 700 athletes from 42 countries, the Government Administration said.
The conversation also touched on the infrastructure projects carried out in Bakuriani with the support of the Georgian Government, for which ₾270 million (about $101mln) was allocated, including the installation of three new cable cars, a new 30-km artificial “modern” snowmaking system, and additional six new ski trails.
Eliasch praised the “great work” done by the organising committee of the tournament and said everything was arranged at the “highest level”. Future plans and Georgia’s participation in winter sports were also stressed by the sides at the meeting.
