Viktor Dolidze, Georgia's Ambassador to NATO, on Wednesday said Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze’s first official visit to Brussels and meetings with NATO officials would add “another important impetus” to the country’s aspirations for full membership in the alliance.
Dolidze said the PM was scheduled to hold “high-level” meetings with the Secretary General of the bloc, as well as the Deputy Secretary General and heads of various services. He also said the meeting of the NATO-Georgia Commission within the framework of the North Atlantic Council was also scheduled.
He said the discussions would review Georgia’s main foreign and security priorities, the progress of reforms in the country and the process of its integration into the alliance.
He added the Washington Summit, marking NATO’s 75th anniversary in July, would discuss “not only threats and challenges but also topics of partnership” - a subject where he said Georgia was “one of the leaders” and “recognised by the entire alliance”.
Josep Borrell, the European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, on Tuesday told the visiting Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze that his trip to Brussels was a “sign that Georgia has chosen the European path very seriously”.
