The strategic partnership between the United States and Georgia was discussed at a meeting between Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili and Isobel Coleman, the Deputy Administrator for Policy and Programs at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), on Wednesday.

Garibashvili and Coleman highlighted the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Georgia and the US - marked this year - and pointed to the “strong strategic partnership based on common values and interests”, the Government Administration said.

The head of the Georgian Government extended his gratitude for the “unwavering political and practical support” of the US, which he said had “helped to strengthen Georgia's democracy over the past three decades” and to establish the country as a “reliable and viable partner”.

Garibashvili also called Georgia “the closest and most reliable partner of the US in the region”, adding the country was “committed” to further strengthening the strategic partnership “in all areas of cooperation”.

The PM also noted USAID's “invaluable contribution” to strengthening Georgia's democratic institutions, supporting economic growth and the country’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations through various programmes.

Garibashvili and Coleman also discussed the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine and the resulting “difficult” security situation in the Black Sea region.
