Projects implemented within the framework of the United Nations Development Programme in Georgia, and future cooperation between the UN organisation and the country were discussed at a meeting between Irakli Garibashvili, the Prime Minister of Georgia,  and Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, the UNDP Director of the Regional Bureau on Thursday.

The Georgian Government appreciates the contribution of the UN Programme in strengthening democratic processes and economic development in Georgia, the PM said in the meeting, while also noting the UNDP’s support during the pandemic and in the field of environment.

The contribution of the Programme in the field of human rights was also highlighted by Garibashvili, who emphasised its significance in the development of the new National Human Rights Strategy of Georgia for 2022-2030, the Government Administration said.

The sides noted the cooperation had been successful “for years” for the UNDP assistance of the public administration reform in the country, and would continue in the future.

The situation in the Russian-occupied territories of Georgia was also discussed at the meeting,  with Garibashvili noting his Government “appreciates” the UN support for the families affected by the Russian-Georgian conflict through humanitarian projects implemented in the occupied regions.
