The cooperation between the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe agencies and Georgian authorities was discussed in a meeting involving Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Kairat Abdrakhmanov, the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities, on Wednesday.
The head of the Georgian Government thanked the High Commissioner for his “active involvement” in the process of consolidation of democratic institutions in Georgia, the Government Administration said.
In his comments at the meeting, the PM noted the multiethnic nature of Georgian society, highlighting the effective implementation of the policy of civic equality and integration was of special importance. Garibashvili said his Government was committed to adhering to “high international human rights standards” and applying “best international practices”.
The Government’s strategy for civic equality and integration, created with active involvement of the HCNM office and with a relevant action plan, is aimed at creating equal opportunities for all citizens regardless of ethnic, religious or other group representation, Garibashvili told the OSCE official.
The work of the Georgian education sector in providing quality education in native languages was noted as a “clear example” of the successful cooperation between Georgian authorities and the HCNM office.
