Ongoing democratic reforms implemented by the Government of Georgia, and ongoing hostilities in Ukraine were discussed by the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili and a British parliamentary delegation led by Jonathan Djanogly, the Chairman of the Inter-Party Parliamentary Friendship Group, on Tuesday.
Garibashvili called the official visit of the delegation “another clear confirmation” of the strategic partnership between Georgia and the United Kingdom, expressing hope the close relations would be “further intensified” in both bilateral and multilateral formats, the Government Administration said.
The Georgian PM thanked the members of the UK House of Commons for their “significant contribution” to the democratic development of Georgia through the strengthening of state institutions and the Good Governance Fund. The British support in the electoral and judicial systems of Georgia was noted at the working session.
During the meeting, the PM also stressed Georgia was continuing to provide political support to Ukraine amid the Russian invasion, and focused on the important role of the international community, including the UK, in ensuring security in the Black Sea region.
The Government head said in the light of the existing challenges, “close security cooperation” between the UK and Georgia was gaining “special urgency”.
The chairman of the British delegation reaffirmed his support for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity at the meeting.
