A “vast majority” of Georgian citizens share views with the Government on steps taken to ensure national interests on the backdrop of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said on Monday in comments to the survey by Georgian Opinion Research Business International (GORBI).
It has been clearly reaffirmed that the vast majority of our society shares the steps taken by our Government - the policies related to the protection of our national interests, the protection of our country's statehood, sovereignty and our population,” Garibashvili said.
The head of the Government called the results of the survey - which showed a majority of Georgian citizens agreed with the Government’s decision not to join the sanctions against Russia - “gratifying”.
Released on Monday, the GORBI survey asked respondents the question: “The Georgian Dream Government did not join the economic sanctions against Russia. Do you think this step of the Government is right or wrong?”.
The results showed 64.5 percent answering Yes, 30.4 percent calling the decision wrong and 5.2 percent responding by saying they were not sure, or declining to answer. Carried out between March 10-16 across Georgia, the poll collected responses from 1,008 individuals.
