Georgia will import a new batch of the Pfizer vaccine against Covid-19 by the end of March, Health Minister Zurab Azarashvili said at today’s Government session.

Azarashvili announced the news while explaining an active campaign was underway “to intensify the pace of vaccination” in the country. The Minister said the peak of daily confirmed cases was “over”, but added vaccination was still important.

The hospitalisation rate for those infected with coronavirus in the country has decreased… There were 6,000 beds occupied in hospitals in mid-February, while the number has decreased to 2,000 as of March 7,” Azarashvili said.

While talking about the government's involvement in intensifying vaccination rates, Azarashvili said up to 30 different groups were going to villages and towns of the country to raise awareness about the benefits of citizens receiving their jabs.

Amiran Gamkrelidze, the Head of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), also said on March 6 the country had passed the peak of confirmed cases, but added the sixth wave of the pandemic had not yet ended. He called on the public to keep following safety measures related to the virus.

Georgia has reported 910 new Covid-19 cases, 8,081 recoveries, and 32 deaths in the past 24 hours. The positivity rate for the past 14 days stands at 20.44 percent.

In total, 1,351,863 individuals have received at least one dose of any vaccine in the country so far, while 1,248,841 people have been fully vaccinated amounting to 43 percent of the country’s adult population and 225,440 have received booster shots of the vaccine.
