It is important for the European Union to maintain Georgia’s path to becoming a member state, President Salome Zourabichvili told European Council President Charles Michel on Tuesday.

In a meeting between the two officials, Zourabichvili also said it was significant for Georgia, on its part, to carry out the necessary reforms for fulfilling its EU aspirations.

While Ukraine is in the centre of attention due to the ongoing conflict in the country, the situation in Georgia is “not forgotten”, the Georgian President said in comments following the meeting.

She also reaffirmed her solidarity with Ukraine against Russian aggression, noting the future of Georgia and other EU-associated countries was in “new developments and a new environment that will give a new perspective”.
