The Government of Georgia, in agreement with its partners, will take consistent steps to ensure the country takes its historical place in the European family, Georgian FM David Zalkaliani said in an interview released by Imedi channel on Wednesday.
Zalkaliani told the channel both the Prime Minister and the Foreign Ministry “actively communicated” with European partners over the prospects of Georgia's integration into the European Union.
I want to assure the public that we, in agreement with our partners, will unquestionably take consistent and bold steps [to make sure Georgia is] where it historically belongs. Our society will see this very soon, Zalkaliani told hosts of a programme on the channel.
Also, as Davit Zalkaliani told `Imedi channel regarding the recall of the Ambassador of Ukraine to Georgia, he already had a phone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba. Georgian FM said that during the conversation he had expressed surprise, calling the decision of Ukrainian colleagues “somewhat emotional” .
Zalkaliani hopes that after this communication, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Georgia will return soon and will continue his duties.
The Committee on European Integration of the Georgian Parliament on Tuesday prepared a draft resolution on the country’s integration into the European Union, calling on EU member states and institutions to take all necessary steps to accelerate Georgia's accession to the Union.
Heidi Hautala, a Member of the European Parliament from Finland said “Ukraine and Georgia deserve European prospects” in an interview released by Georgia’s Imedi channel on Wednesday.
