A Polish border volunteer has thanked Georgia for a humanitarian aid shipment for Ukrainian citizens displaced by Russia's military onslaught on the country, calling the cargo "very important" in a moving message to agenda.ge.

Contacting us via social media on Tuesday morning, Grzegorz, a volunteer helping the efforts to assist refugees fleeing the conflict across Poland's border with Ukraine, said he was a local of the city of Lublin, which had just received its first flight with aid.

The arrival turned out to be a shipment delivered by Georgian airline Geo Sky, with the volunteer telling agenda.ge editors “[Georgia's] help is very important for this 100.000 frightened hungry people waiting at the border.”

The aid worth one million GEL ($315,000/€279,000) to Ukraine was approved by the country’s government on decision by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili. The Georgian Post has also announced it will deliver humanitarian parcels to Ukraine’s citizens free of charge.

Similarly to the initiatives of the Polish citizens, Georgian individuals and businesses have also been offering free overnight accommodation and other types of assistance to Ukrainians in the country through social media groups since the breakout of the war.
