Georgian authorities granted humanitarian status to 460 foreign citizens in 2022, with the number including 367 Ukrainian nationals, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said on Thursday.
Throughout the year, 1,473 citizens of foreign countries registered as asylum seekers with the country’s authorities, with the most number - 516 - coming on citizens of Ukraine, in the aftermath of the breakout of the ongoing war in their country.
The Ministry said the number of individuals who had been granted humanitarian status had increased from 75 in 2021. The refugee status was approved for 21 individuals that year, while 743 received asylum.
State bodies also denied refugee or humanitarian status to 822 citizens of different countries, including 310 Iranian nationals, the largest share in the overall number.
Over the course of 2022, 73 nationals of different states were accommodated in temporary accommodation centres in the country, while 165 were deported from Georgia.
