Georgian prime minister Irakli Garibashvili on Thursday discussed “centuries-old ties” between his country and Israel and prospects of further strengthening cooperation with Hadas Meitzad, the newly appointed Israeli ambassador to Georgia.

The Georgian government administration said the PM had expressed hope the two countries would continue “close cooperation” after the formation of the new government in Israel following elections this week.

The sides also discussed the “fruitful cooperation” between the parliaments and other institutions of the two states, and noted a number of important bilateral agreements had been signed between them in recent years.

Highlighting the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Georgia and Israel, marked this year, the ambassador confirmed her readiness for future cooperation.

Meitzad served in the Israeli foreign ministry between 2009-2022, following a spell as the Israeli embassy spokesperson in Tokyo between 2007-2010, and as a cadet in the country’s foreign office.

She has replaced Ran Gidor in the position of ambassador to Georgia, with the latter having served in the post since 2020.
