Cooperation between the Georgian and Israeli legislative bodies was discussed on Friday in a meeting between the Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili and members of the Israel-Georgia Parliamentary Friendship Group of the Knesset.

The officials reviewed the “historically strong” ties between Georgia and Israel, with Papuashvili noting the cooperation was “active not only between the parliaments but also between regions and cities of both countries”, the press office of the Georgian Parliament said.

David Bitsn, the Chair of the Friendship Group and an Israeli MP, expressed his “particular” gratitude to Georgia for the planning and realisation of the Holocaust commemoration on Friday, adding the event had facilitated a “significant enhancement” of parliamentary ties.

The meeting also focused on the ongoing war in Ukraine and developments in the wider region.
