The United Nations secretary general has “positively assessed” the policy pursued by the Georgian government and prime minister for strengthening peace and stability in the region, Georgian foreign minister Ilia Darchiashvili said on Monday.
Darchiashvili noted Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili and UN secretary-general António Guterres had discussed “important aspects” of cooperation and the support Georgia enjoyed from the organisation.
The secretary general of the United Nations expressed very strong support for Georgia and positively assessed the policy pursued by the Georgian government and prime minister in terms of strengthening peace and stability in the [South Caucasus] region”, the top Georgian diplomat said.
Darchiashvili also noted the meeting of the Georgian PM with the Turkish president in the framework of the 77th session of the UN general assembly, stressing Türkiye was Georgia’s “strategic partner and strong supporter”.
The Georgian prime minister and Turkish president discussed the important issues related to our region, the complicated situation in the region, and they talked about the important measures on how to strengthen peace and stability in our region”, Darchiashvili concluded.
