Current international challenges were reviewed by Georgian prime minister Irakli Garibashvili and United Nations secretary general António Guterres on Tuesday, with the meeting coming at the UN general assembly.
Garibashvili thanked Gutierrez for his “steadfast support” of Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, noting he appreciated the involvement of the UN in the process of peaceful resolution of the conflict in Georgia, the government’s administration said.
The officials emphasised the Georgian government’s commitment to the policy of peaceful resolution of the conflict for de-occupation of the territories of Georgia and the restoration of trust between the societies divided by the occupation line.
The meeting touched on the ongoing war in Ukraine and its impact on the world, with the PM noting the hostilities in Ukraine had “completely undermined” the architecture of international security and the rules-based order.

The two sides also pointed to the security environment in the South Caucasus region, emphasising a recent agreement reached between Armenia and Azerbaijan through the efforts of the Georgian PM, which involved Azerbaijan’s release of 15 Armenian prisoners of war in exchange for getting from Armenia a map of landmines in the Agdam district.
Garibashvili expressed his readiness to continue playing the role of mediator to ensure peace and stability in the region.
