Priority topics of bilateral relations between Georgia and Qatar were discussed on Monday by Georgian foreign minister Ilia Darchiashvili and his Qatari counterpart Soltan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi, with the meeting coming at the United Nations general assembly.
The officials welcomed the recent intensification of relations between the two countries, noting they had a “positive impact” on various areas of cooperation and highlighting the recent visit of the Georgian prime minister to Qatar and his meetings with officials including with the Emir of Qatar, the Georgian foreign office said.
The ministers also emphasised Qatar's support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia, while assessing trade and economic cooperation and noting the “great potential” between the countries in the direction.

In the latter, they pointed to the growing export of Georgian products to Qatar and their sale in the country's large supermarkets, and highlighted the “high interest” of the Qatari tourists in Georgian visitor sites.
The meeting also noted the successful operation of the state-owned flag carrier Qatar Airlines in Georgia and its direct flights, which the officials said contributed to the deepening of people-to-people ties. The ministers agreed to work with the involvement of relevant agencies to deepen economic ties and sign relevant trade agreements.
