A “growing and positive” dynamics of tourism recovery in Georgia’s Black Sea region of Adjara was one of the topics discussed by Tornike Rizhvadze, the Head of the regional Government, at a Supreme Council meeting on Tuesday.
He noted international traveller visits in the first quarter of this year had recovered by 51 percent compared to 2019, adding the recovery of flight numbers was also “actively underway,” along with new destinations being added.
Up to 300 international flights will be operated at Batumi International Airport by more than 20 airlines from 12 countries in June, Rizhvadze announced, pointing out five new airlines entering the region this year including Airbaltic, Flydeal, Jordan Aviation, Aseman and Uzbekistan Airways.
The official also noted direct flights from Latvia’s capital of Riga to Batumi, the capital of the Adjara region, were performed for the first time this year, announcing the launch of direct flights to Dubai and Saudi Arabia and the resumption of flights to Baku, Azerbaijan.
