1.2 mln Georgian citizens spend $71 mln on domestic tourism in Q1 2022

About 1.2 million Georgian citizens aged 15 and above made 1.3 million monthly visits within the country in the first quarter of 2022 and spent ₾210 million GEL (about $71.43mln/€68.36mln), the latest data published by the National Statistics Office of Georgia show. 

The figures showed the monthly average number of visitors increased by 13.3 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, while the monthly average expenditures increased by 14 percent year-on-year, Geostat said. Average expenditure per visit increased by two percent and equalled ₾152.2 (about $51.77/€49.54).

In the Q1, the monthly average number of domestic tourist visits by Georgian residents amounted to 626,700, which is an increase of 13.1 percent compared to the previous year.

The majority of the visitors (45.6 percent) were residents of capital Tbilisi, followed by the Kvemo Kartli region (11 percent) and the Imereti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti regions (10.6 percent), "while the rest of the regions are represented by a lower share in the structure", Geostat said.

The majority of the visits came in Tbilisi (average 331,900 visits per month) and Imereti region (211,700 visits per month). 

Last year, people aged 31-50 were among the most avid domestic travellers (38.4 percent), while 53.6 percent of visits were made by women, Geostat said.

The majority of the visits came from Tbilisi - with 43.9 percent - and Kvemo Kartli region - with 11.5 percent. 

In the fourth quarter of 2021, the monthly average number of visitors increased by 26.1 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
