The Georgian Government expects “even more” international travellers to visit Georgia for the current tourist season due to the “greatly increased” number of applications to the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency, Mariam Kvrivishvili, the Deputy Economy Minister, said on Thursday.
Kvrivishvili pointed out “especially large” applications to the Agency had been submitted from the European Union and Persian Gulf countries, noting the flights would be operated by 34 airlines from 70 destinations in 30 countries, based on the schedule for the 2022 summer navigation season.
She also noted the flights would be carried out 385-395 times a week, adding the number would increase during the peak of the season.
The Deputy Minister also said the Government was supporting the tourism sector and referred to the recent initiative to write off property taxes from the country’s tourism sector businesses, including hotels and restaurants.
In March Georgia hosted 211,484 international travellers, marking a 34.1 percent recovery from the pre-pandemic figure in 2019, while the number of entrances for tourism totalled 159,199 - a 48.5 percent recovery compared to the same period of 2019.
