A total of 211,484 international travellers visited Georgia in March, a 34.1 percent recovery from the pre-pandemic figure in 2019, the Georgian National Tourism Administration (GNTA) announced on Thursday.
The GNTA said the figure had come from 188,354 international visits made in the month, posting a 37.1 percent recovery for the same period of 2019, and a 236.9 percent increase over the same period of 2021. The tourism body also revealed the number of international travellers in March was a 266.3 percent increase year-on-year.
Among the visits in the month, the number of entrances for tourism totalled 159,199 - a 48.5 percent recovery compared to 2019 and a 210.6 increase compared to last year - with 107,944 more visits than in March last year, the Administration said.
Medea Janiashvili, the Acting Head of the GNTA, called the figures from March a "very positive result," noting this year Georgia would have a "very good result" in recovery dynamics in terms of the number of tourists visiting the country.
This [a 48.5 percent recovery in the number of tourists] is a result of the many activities we have undertaken to position a particular tourism product in the international market," Janiashvili said.
Last year, a total of 1,881,271 international travellers visited the country, marking an increase of 7.7 percent compared to 2020, with international tourist revenue in the country reaching $1,244,941,717.
The figure was a 38 percent of revenue recovery since the economic slowdown resulting from pandemic-related restrictions.
