Georgia’s Weightlifting World Champion, Olympic Champion and record-breaking athlete Lasha Talakhadze has become a six-time winner of the European Championship on Sunday, after winning the event in Albania's capital of Tirana.

Talakhadze claimed three gold medals in the +109 kg weight category after lifting 217 kg in snatch, 245 kg in clean and jerk and 462 kg in total.

The achievement comes after Talakhadze was named the European Weightlifting Federation’s Weightlifter of the year last month after receiving 4,750 votes in an online poll run by the EWF.

The Georgian athlete earned his latest Olympic Champion’s title last year in Tokyo, where he was the co-flag bearer of the Georgian flag at the opening ceremony.

In 2020, he claimed his third straight Best Male Lifter title in an International Weightlifting Federation ranking.

He is also the recipient of the Presidential Order of the Excellence of Georgia for his achievements at the 2016 Olympic Games, and earned Georgia’s Sportsperson of the Year titles in 2017, 2018 and 2021.
