Georgia’s Weightlifting Olympic Champion, European Champion and record-breaking athlete Lasha Talakhadze has become a six-time winner of the World Championship on Friday, after winning the event in Colombia’s capital of Bogota.

Talakhadze claimed three gold medals in the +109 kg weight category after lifting 215 kg in snatch, 251 kg in clean and jerk and 466 kg in total.

The Georgian athlete became a six-time European Champion in June after he was named the European Weightlifting Federation’s Weightlifter of the year, receiving 4,750 votes in an online poll run by the EWF.

Talakhadze earned his latest Olympic Champion’s title last year in Tokyo, where he was the co-flag bearer of the Georgian flag at the opening ceremony.

In 2020, he claimed his third straight Best Male Lifter title in an International Weightlifting Federation ranking.

He is also the recipient of the Presidential Order of the Excellence of Georgia for his achievements at the 2016 Olympic Games and earned Georgia’s Sportsperson of the Year titles in 2017, 2018 and 2021.
