Georgia’s weightlifters Mariam Murgvliani and Saba Adamia have become vice-champions at the Youth World Weightlifting Championships, each earning three silver medals at the tournament, the Georgian Weightlifting Federation said on Friday.
At the championship held in Albania, Murgvliani claimed three silver medals in the 81 kg category, lifting 102 kg in snatch, 127 kg in clean and jerk, and 229 kg in total. The Georgian weightlifter broke the Georgian record in all categories and in total by 49 kg.
Adamia, who competed at the championship in the 102 kg weight category, also beat the country’s record, by improving it in the total by 6 kg. The young athlete won three silver medals and became the vice-champion of the tournament for lifting 137 kg in snatch, 168 kg in clean and jerk, and 305 kg in total.
Another Georgian weightlifter Irakli Vekua will compete at the Youth World Weightlifting Championships later today in the +102 kg category of the tournament.
