Georgia’s Shota Mishvelidze claims 2 gold, 1 silver at European Championships

Georgia’s Shota Mishvelidze on Sunday claimed two gold and one silver medals at the European Weightlifting Championships in Yerevan.

Mishvelidze earned the 61 kg weight category gold by lifting 129, 133 and 136 kilograms in snatch.

He also lifted 155 and 162 kg in clean and jerk to take the silver, and his combined total of 298 kg earned another gold in the competition running between Saturday and Thursday.

 


Led by head coach Giorgi Asanidze, the 2004 Olympic Champion, the Georgian team has claimed three gold, two silver and one bronze medals at the event. 

The team’s Ramin Shamilishvili claimed three medals in the 55 kg on Sunday after lifting 113 kg in snatch for the top spot and 136 kg in clean and jerk for bronze. His combined 249 kg put him second in his weight category.
