Georgian weightlifter Lasha Talakhadze, three-time world and two-time European champion, was named the best weightlifter of Europe in 2022, the Georgian Weightlifting Federation announced on Friday.
Talakhadze was awarded at the opening ceremony of the 2023 European Weightlifting Championship, running between 15 - 23 April in Yerevan.

This year's voting format has been changed by the decision of the European Weightlifting Federation and from now on, representatives of the International Sports Federation Journalists will nominate the best athlete instead of fans.
The European champion has received this honour from international sports journalists for the first time.
Talakhadze is also the recipient of the Presidential Order of the Excellence of Georgia for his achievements at the 2016 Olympic Games and earned Georgia’s Sportsperson of the Year titles in 2017, 2018 and 2021.
