Georgian Kakhi Asanidze claimed three medals including a gold at the 2022 European Junior and U23 Weightlifting Championships in Albania’s city of Durrës on Wednesday.

Under the guidance of Giorgi Asanidze, a former weightlifter and head coach of the U23 national team, Kakhi Asanidze earned the gold in the 73 kg weight category in clean and jerk, overcoming 171/176 and winning the gold medal.

The Georgian weightlifter also won his second gold in the combined results, where his tally stood at  322 kg.

Asanidze also claimed a silver medal after making all three attempts and lifting 141/144/146 kg in snatch, losing 1 kilogram for a gold medal.

Archil Malakmadze, a member of the national team, also competed in the 73kg weight category and lifted 135 kg in snatch, after which he had to withdraw from the competition due to an injury, finishing the championship in sixth place in snatch.
