Georgia’s Weightlifting World Champion, Olympic Champion and record-breaking athlete Lasha Talakhadze is in running to be named European Weightlifting Federation’s Best Weightlifter of the Year via an online poll.

Talakhadze, who earned his latest Olympic Champion’s title last year in Tokyo, - where he was the co-flag bearer of the Georgian flag at the opening ceremony - is one of 10 male weightlifters shortlisted for the title.

Also featuring a separate voting for women athletes, the poll will be closed on May 21 before winners are revealed.

The winners will receive the EWF 2021 Best Weightlifter of the Year Award during the opening ceremony of the 100th Edition of the European Senior Championships that will take place on May 27 in Tirana, Albania.

In 2020, Talakhadze earned his third straight Best Male Lifter title in an International Weightlifting Federation ranking.

He is also the recipient of the Presidential Order of Excellence of Georgia for his achievements at the 2016 Olympic Games, and earned Georgia’s Sportsperson of the Year title in 2017 and 2018 and 2021.
