Lawyers of ex. president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili demand he be treated in a civil hospital and not in prison as his condition is allegedly deteriorating.
Saakashvili’s lawyer, Nika Gvaramia, says Saakashvili may be killed during instigated unrest in the prison hospital, which is why it is unacceptable to treat him there.
Mikheil Saakashvili cannot be taken to prison hospital due to serious safety concerns”, Gvaramia said at a news briefing.
He further added that the prison hospital is not fully equipped to ensure thorough medical interventions.
“I’m appealing for help, not for myself, but for a Georgian democracy by taking this desperate step of coming and turning myself in. I wanted both, to express solidarity to my suffering nation and awaken the consciousness of the World.” #FreeSaakashvili pic.twitter.com/eNToDIGSVe

Ex. president Saakashvili, who faces seven criminal charges including for the illegal crossing of the state border, was detained in Tbilisi a day before the October 2 municipal elections.
Denying the charges, Saakashvili remains on a hunger strike demanding to be released.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has stated earlier this month that Saakashvili is staging a show with his hunger strike to spark tension ahead of municipal election runoffs on October 30.
