243 fires reported in Georgia in past 48 hours, 11 hotspots remain active

Two hundred and forty three fires have been reported in Georgia in the past 48 hours, mostly in the western part of the country.
232 of the 243 fires have already been extinguished.
Firefighters are now trying to extinguish the remaining 11 hotspots,” the Georgian Emergency Management Service reported earlier today.
Mostly fields have caught fire, with limited destruction in forests.
Imereti Governor Zviad Shalamberidze has stated that human negligence may be the reason for the fires.
He said that sometimes locals set fires to their agricultural lands (to clean them from grass and other remains) and strong winds spread the fires.
One hundred of 105 fires in western Georgia have been extinguished by more than 500 firefighters, while the fire still rages in Georgia’s Russian-occupied Gali district also in western part of the country.
Firefighters are working to extinguish a fire that broke out in the fields of Georgia’s western Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti municipality.
Firefighters have rescued five people, including three minors from a fire at a flat on the ground floor of a residential building in Mukhiani, Tbilisi.
The Emergency Management Service reported that forest fires have been extinguished near the village of Khevrali in the municipality of Mestia in Svaneti region and in the village of Didi Riketi in the municipality of Khulo in Adjara region in western Georgia earlier today.
Nine hotspots of fires remain in western Georgia and 350 firefighters with 40 fire trucks and a border police helicopter are trying to extinguish them, the Georgian Emergency Management Service stated earlier today.
Georgian firefighters have contained three of the remaining seven fires in western and central Georgia.
Three out of the six remaining wildfires in western Georgia have been contained, the Emergency Management Service of the Georgian Interior Ministry announced earlier today. Meanwhile, local Abkhaz news agency Apsnypress has also reported that the fire approaching homes in Gagra has been contained.
A total of 300 fires reported in Georgia since January 4, 2021 have been extinguished. The Emergency Management Service stated earlier today that over 700 fire-fighters, hundreds of fire trucks and a border police helicopter have been working to contain the fire. Meanwhile, hotspots in Georgia’s Russia-occupied region of Abkhazia remain active.
Firefighters have been mobilised in Georgia’s eastern region of Kakheti due to an increased risk of forest and field fires, reports the Emergency Management Service of Georgia (EMS).
The Emergency Management Service of Georgia has warned the public about the rise in air temperature in Georgia’s east in the coming days, noting the development would increase the risk of forest and field fires.
