Forest fires extinguished at two of seven locations in western Georgia

The Emergency Management Service reported that forest fires have been extinguished near the village of Khevrali in the municipality of Mestia in Svaneti region and in the village of Didi Riketi in the municipality of Khulo in Adjara region in western Georgia earlier today.

The Emergency Management Service released a video showing how fire-fighters have been trying to put up the fire at different locations:

About 200 fire-fighters will try to extinguish fire at the five remaining locations from tomorrow morning near:

  • the village of Tskhumari in the municipality of Mestia in Svaneti region
  • the village of Iri in the municipality of Oni, in Racha region
  • the village of Khideshlebi in the municipality on Oni in Racha region
  • the village of Abari in the municipality of Ambrolauri in Racha region
  • the village of Salkhino in the municipality of Martvili in Samegrelo region

Forest fires have been raging at seven locations around the country from November 17. Fire was reportedly ranging in the Russian occupied region of Abkhazia as well. 

Emergency Management Service calls on the farmers, hunters, rangers and local residents to be “maximally cautious”​​​ not to harm the nature.
