Ruling party reveals its 30 majoritarian candidates for Tbilisi and regions
The Georgian Dream ruling party has nominated its majoritarian candidates earlier today.

The ruling Georgian Dream party has nominated all 30 of its majoritarian candidates for the upcoming October parliamentary elections, both for the eight constituencies of the capital Tbilisi and the regions.
The elections in the autumn will be held in a different manner, with 120 MPs elected per the party-list based electoral system and the remaining 30 per the majoritarian electoral model.

Head of the ruling party election staff and former parliament speaker Irakli Kobakhidze said that the party will present an election programme targeted at ‘further strengthening the state economy, for the safety and welfare of the Georgian people.’
Our programme and the election campaign will be focused on the further advancement of the country,” Kobakhidze said.
The head and the founder of the ruling party Bidzina Ivanishvili says that the Georgian Dream ‘is still capable of taking on the responsibility to run the country’.
I am happy that we managed to return to a normal way of living quickly. I want to express gratitude to our epidemiologists and doctors, the ruling party which has spared no efforts to prevent major problems and our people for their high social responsibility and trust to the government. We have all contributed to Georgia’s being a green zone; a country free of the virus. The coronavirus crisis has once again revealed that Georgia is being run by a reliable authority which is the guarantor of peace and stability in the country and is carrying out a pragmatic and a reasonable policy,” Ivanishvili said.
Ivanishvili criticised the previous state leadership ‘who failed to prevent a crisis and abandoned people’ during the Russia-Georgia 2008 war.
He stated that the opposition’s recent refusal to vote for the constitutional changes has ‘once again revealed that it is a force [that wants to take revenge] and their main goal is to grab power.’
Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia said that the elections will be held ‘in full line with democratic standards and Georgian Dream will celebrate a victory in a fair fight.’
He said that the victory of the ruling party will be the victory of the county.
A bill has been registered in parliament per the agreement of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party and the opposition on March 8.
Sixty-eight political parties, which are not represented in the current parliament, have appealed to the Georgian Central Election Commission (CEC) for registration for the October parliamentary elections.
The Georgian parliament has passed the election bill drafted with the mediation of the diplomatic corps in its third and final reading earlier today. 117 MPs voted for and three went against the bill which will institute a more proportional electoral system for this autumn’s parliamentary elections. The United National Movement and the European Georgia opposition parties, who support the amendments, refused to participate in the vote as they demand the release of co-founder of opposition-minded TV channel Mtavari Arkhi Giorgi Rurua.
The opposition says that the ruling party’s majoritarian candidates, who have been nominated earlier today, have been selected according to their ‘obedience to the founder and the head of the ruling party Bidzina Ivanishvili’ and that ‘they are symbols of a bankrupt political force.’

The ruling party will keep Giorgi Gakharia as its candidate for prime minister because of his high level of professionalism and patriotism, as well as his excellent leadership and management skills. Archil Talakvadze will again serve as the parliament speaker as well.

The Georgian Dream ruling party has presented its party list to the country’s Central Election Commission earlier today, stating that it has ‘all resources’ to take at least 100 seats in the 150-member parliament.
