Georgia is fostering its growing hazelnut industry by building a new processing factory in western Guria region.
A local firm named Guriis Tkhili (Guria’s Hazelnut) will invest 136,000 GEL (about $59,006/€52,466*) to build the new factory, which will have the capacity to be able to process 100 tonnes of hazelnuts per year.
About 30 people will be employed at the factory, which will be located in the small town Lanchkhuti, Guria.
The company owners planned to export the nuts to Turkey, the European Union (EU) and Central Asia.
The new hazelnut processing factory is being built using support from the ‘Produce in Georgia’ state program that aimed to recover the country’s production industry and in turn, improve Georgia’s economic future.
