Did you know Japanese car manufacturer Toyota produces vehicles that use aluminum ingots exported from Georgia?

This is fact; Georgian company Legometal has been supplying Toyota with Georgian aluminum ingots for the past several months.

Legometal – a ferrous and non-ferrous metal exporter who also sells wreckages – is a 100 percent export-oriented company that targets markets in the European Union (EU) and Japan.

The metal manufacturing factory was built within the state program ‘Produce in Georgia’ in May 2016, however the company itself was created in 1990 but had no place to operate. The ‘Produce in Georgia’ scheme partially funded the new factory, which employed 40 people.

About $1.5 million USD was invested in the Legometal factory, said the Entrepreneurship Development Agency (Enterprise Georgia) of Georgia’s Ministry of Economy.

Legometal planned to expand further and build another factory that will process copper and brass.

Official figures showed in January-August 2016 Georgia's top exported items were copper ores and concentrates, (worth $205 million or 16 percent of total exports) followed by ferro-alloys (worth $112 million or nine percent of total exports) and motor cars (worth $103 million or eight percent of total exports).
