Georgia is striving to foster hazelnut production, boost its export and make it more competitive on the international markets.

For this reason, the first meeting of the Advisory Council for the development of the hazelnut sector was held today at Georgia’s Ministry of Agriculture, which was headed by the Minister Levan Davitashvili.

The Minister stated that hazelnut takes one of the leading positions among Georgia’s successful export products.

The Advisory Board is a formal platform for strengthening communication between the state and private sector. We have discussed and decided number of very important issues, which is about new regulations, laboratory service and marketing,” said Davitashvili.
Hazelnut is one of the strategic export culture for Georgia and this culture needs more development and state is ready to support this process,” he added.

Meanwhile, head of Hazelnut Processors and Exporters Association Aleksandre Motserelia said Georgian hazelnut is being established as a brand and cementing its position on the world market.

This is proved by the decision that the Hazelnut World Congress is planned to be held in Georgia in 2021. We believe by that time all problems regarding regulation and legislation will be solved in Georgia and the Georgian hazelnut will be moved to the premium segment,” Motserelia said.

In his words this year Georgia is expecting high quality hazelnut harvest.
