Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Wednesday highlighted the “very interesting” meeting between the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and the European Parliament Speaker Roberta Metsola in Brussels.

Darchiashvili was commenting following the EU-Georgia Association Council meeting, held on Tuesday, and called it “the most important day” of Kobakhidze’s first official visit.

[It was a meeting of the] European Union-Georgia Association Council, which is the main platform for the rapprochement of bilateral relations between Georgia and the European Union. This most important meeting was held under the direction of the Prime Minister, and it was the first time that [the Georgian delegation] had arrived as a candidate country. I think the most important thing happened yesterday”, he said.

The top Georgian diplomat also stressed Metsola was a “true supporter” of Georgia.

She and the Prime Minister had a very interesting conversation. Of course, the conversation touched on the European future of Georgia, the most important result that our country received through the decision of the European Council last December”, he continued in reference to the candidate status.

The Minister added the Georgian delegation’s “main message” was that the country “continues this most important process until the eventual [EU] membership”.
