Steps taken by the Georgian Government on the country’s European integration path were discussed on Friday in a meeting between the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
Garibashvili, on visit to Germany, informed Scholz about the implemented reforms and the “significant progress” in meeting the European Union’s conditions for granting the country the membership candidate status later this year, the Government Administration said.
The Georgian official also discussed the importance of the bloc granting the country the candidate status.
Garibashvili highlighted that “both political and practical” support of the member states in the integration process was “critically important” for Georgia in the next stage of its EU accession.
The Government head also stressed the Chancellor had “always openly supported” the European integration of the country, and thanked him for the support.
The officials also reviewed the security environment in the Black Sea region and the wider world, and touched on the Euro-Atlantic integration of Georgia and the progress achieved in the process over the recent years.
