Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili and his Italian counterpart Antonio Tajani on Friday signed a joint declaration on the launch of a “high-level dialogue” between the two states, the Foreign Ministry said.
The document reflects the “dynamic cooperation” between Georgia and Italy, revealing new perspectives of partnership and the “significant progress” achieved in the bilateral relations between the two states since 1992, which creates a “solid basis” for strengthening and diversifying the existing cooperation agenda.
In his tweet, Darchiashvili noted Italy and Georgia have taken "yet another major step forward" to bringing two nations "closer to each other".

In the declaration, the sides expressed their “strong will” to raise the existing bilateral relations to a “higher level” and outlined future perspectives of mutually beneficial cooperation. The parties also reaffirmed their commitments to common values and interests and their desire to uphold the rules-based international order.
The declaration, signed by the sides during Darchiashvili’s official visit to Rome, consists of four thematic dimensions, including political, defence and security, trade, economic, as well as cultural, educational and scientific fields.
In his turn, Tajani hailed "important agreement" signed with his Georgian counterpart and reaffirmed Italy's support to Georgia's European path and its territorial integrity.
