State Security Service detain four for purchase, storing, sale of counterfeit currency

The State Security Service of Georgia on Wednesday said its professionals had detained four Georgian citizens for purchase, storage and sale of counterfeit currency in large quantities.

The Service said its investigation had established the offenders had sold $6,100 in counterfeit bills in exchange for $3,050.

It also said the counterfeit bills were of “high quality”, produced by a deep metallographic printing technique in a printing house.

The crime is punishable by seven to 10 years in prison.
