The Georgian Border Police has received a donation of border surveillance equipment, off-road vehicles and buses from the United Nations’ International Organisation for Migration, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said on Thursday.
The donation was made in a bid to improve the domestic agency’s capacity to control sections of the state border and help detect and prevent crime, the Ministry also said, with the handover coming with financial aid from the European Union.

The hardware was provided to the Border Police under the projects EU4 Security, Accountability And Fight Against Crime in Georgia - Integrated Border Management, and Border And Migration Management Action For Georgia.
In its comments, the Ministry said the projects were being implemented to enhance Georgian authorities’ capabilities in areas of integrated border management and migratory governance in accordance with EU-Georgia cooperation frameworks and the Visa Liberalisation Action Plan between the sides. The observation systems involved in the donation have been installed along the Georgia-Azerbaijan border.
