The Georgian Border Police has received a donation of off-road vehicles from the United Nations International Organisation for Migration, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said on Tuesday.
The Ministry said the donation was aimed to increase the domestic agency’s “efficiency and improve the border protection capabilities”, with the handover coming with financial aid from the European Union.

The hardware was provided to the Border Police under the project Border and Migration Management Action for Georgia, which aims to help the Georgian Government to sustain more effective border management and migration governance implemented by IOM in 2022 under the EU Resilience Facility programme.
The project follows up on comprehensive EU support in the last 10 years, dedicated to strengthening Georgia’s migration and border management capabilities, to cement compliance with relevant EU-Georgia Agreements and the visa liberalisation benchmarks”, the Delegation of the European Union to Georgia said.
The Ministry also said “numerous significant projects” aimed to improve the country’s capacities in the area of border and migration management had been carried out with the cooperation of the IOM and the financial aid of the EU.
The handover event was attended by the Deputy Interior Minister Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, Colonel Nikoloz Sharadze, the head of the MIA Border Police of Georgia, as well as Sanja Celebic Lukovac, the Chief of Mission, IOM Georgia, and Nicholas Cendrowicz, the Head of Cooperation of the EU Delegation to Georgia.
